About Us

The voters of Los Angeles passed a new City Charter in 1999, which calls for a citywide system of independent neighborhood councils chosen by the people of the neighborhoods themselves.  Neighborhood Councils are comprised of 100% volunteers.

The purpose of Neighborhood Councils is to promote public participation in city governance in the decision-making process so that government is more responsive to local needs and requests. Neighborhood Councils give feedback and collective recommendations to the Mayor, the City Council and city departments regarding city budget allocations, which will give the residents a greater say over the decisions that affect our lives.

As the advocate for 46,000 residents within the boundaries of Park Mesa Heights our board includes representatives from residential associations, schools, businesses and other local organizations.

Moreover, because Neighborhood Councils are directly linked to city government, they are a highly effective forum to discuss and resolve issues involving quality of life and city services.  Anyone associated with a neighborhood watch group or block club are encouraged to participate and bring their concerns to the Neighborhood Council.

Your Neighborhood Council promotes better and safer neighborhoods through our work on issues of land use, transportation, animal services, senior services and more.  Anyone who has an interest in helping build a better community is invited and encouraged to attend our meetings. All persons are welcome to fill out a speaker card and offer public comment.

Listen in for how to attend our next meeting.
